Types of Discharges

  • Conventional Shot - Below the head, used to halt the suspect’s intended actions. If only the head is visible, firearms officers will be expected to still shoot the head if necessary.

  • Critical Shot - Shots aimed at the head or central nervous system. Aiming to strike somewhere other than this when ordered to could result in increased risk to life as you are not performing a shot that will incapacitate the suspect completely.
